Hattie McDaniel
Hattie McDaniel
California , United States
Hattie McDaniels, the first African-American to win an Academy Award for her supporting role in Gone with the Wind in 1939, is no longer with us, but her descendants sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about how proud they were of McDaniels. "She knew she was supposed to be subservient," says McDaniels' grandniece Mabel Collins. "But she did not ever deliver a subservient line. She always took over and it became a Hattie McDaniel picture." https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie
